Recognized for Her Service to Minority and Women Entrepreneurs

Detra Miller’s decade-long career with M&T Bank has always been about helping others succeed. Now serving as the Administrative Vice President of Minority Business Banking at M&T, she leads the charge in creating a differentiated client experience for Baltimore’s minority and women entrepreneurs.

Determined to find them new opportunities to succeed, Miller began researching, developing and championing opportunities for minority business owners to succeed. Alongside M&T, Miller held workshops, partnered with business development programs around the city to talk about gaining access to capital, sponsored educational events and fostered relationships with both the Baltimore city and Maryland state offices of minority and women-owned businesses.

Miller’s support for local entrepreneurs soon extended to their banking needs—leading to the launch of M&T Bank’s minority and women-owned business unit. After just a little over a year, the coaching and mentoring provided by Miller and her team have led to 80 percent of her clients seeing success with credit applications.

In light of her incredible work, Miller is the recipient of the 2020 George Bailey Distinguished Service Award. This award, presented by the ABA Foundation, honors bankers who demonstrate outstanding initiative, effectiveness and inspiration to others—ABA’s highest individual honor.
