Elder abuse is on the rise. Franklin Bank, a community bank in Pilesgrove, NJ, is motivated to make a difference. With the help of their branch managers in Salem and Gloucester Counties, the bank created an outreach program that provides education to seniors in the communities they serve – and beyond.
They work to provide education and awareness on identifying and avoiding scams that target seniors. Their presentation uses materials from ABA’s Safe Banking for Seniors program, including slides, videos and activities to help drive the messages home. Seniors have the opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions and if needed, speak with a banker privately to discuss their personal situations.
So far, Franklin Bank presented their program at three locations, reaching groups from 8-15 seniors. Their branches supported World Elder Abuse Day with presentations all week long and are continuing to seek out opportunities to raise awareness, and protect older Americans.
